ART FOR PUBLIC PLACES
Helen Webber has been creating art for public spaces for 30 years. Architects, and interior designers, finding drama and excitement in her work. have commissioned her to enliven several hundred public spaces.
Her work can be found in hotels, hospitals, medical centers, civic centers, schools and universities, cruise ships, banks, religious institutions, community centers, and corporate facilities
throughout the United States and abroad.
The client list shows the extent and range of her site specific work.
ART FOR PRIVATE HOMES
Since 1974 her limited edition tapestries have been specified into more than five thousand homes.
FABRIC COLLAGE TAPESTRIES
Helen Webber is best known for her fabric collage tapestries and murals,created with a broad array of designer fabrics and her own hand painted cottons.
GLASS, CLAY, WOOD, AND METAL
Helen Webber has also created major commissioned murals in stained glass, etched painted glass, sculpted painted clay tile murals, wood collage murals, and painted metal sculptures both free
standing and wall pieces.
PAINTING, PRINTS AND POETRY
Aside from her extensive work in public spaces she has created a body of work in painting and prints on a variety of themes such as sea , jazz, womens songs and her own poetry.
LICENSING AND PUBLISHING
Her designs have been licensed for an array of products including bedding, wall paper, textiles, stationery, and children’s crafts. Her early career started with illustrating and writing four
childrens books, and creating art for magazines and books.
TEACHING, LECTURES, SPEECHES AND WORKSHOPS
During her career she has lectured and taught at colleges and organizations across the US to encourage the creative spirit in the art and design community. She gave lectures and talks from
California to Paris, and has been an instructor at the California College of the Arts, as well as Hussian Art College in Philadelphia.
She co-founded Women in Design International to help make women’s
talents more visible in the design world and the world at large.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
A BA in Psychology from Queens Collegein NYC was followed by studies in social group work at Columbia University. Then she attended the Rhode Island School of Design where she received a MS.
